Therefore, it has never been more important to examine the visualisation of the body than now. With this backdrop, Nicolaisen examines the body as a "common space" in imperfect imagery, where bodily figures in absurd poses and missing limbs represent a chaotic place in an endangering world.

Terje Nicolaisens nye malerier fremstiller hjelpeløse kropper.

Terje Nicolaisen's new paintings depict helpless bodies. It is not the body as object he is investigating, but an evocation of the body as a defective "place".

As humans, we are exposed to an aggressive influence from vague commercial actors with good help from the media. Uncertainty about boundaries and violations, demands on appearance, self-image, dietary confusion, health hysteria and age-prolonging measures, pharmaceutical manipulation, political polarization and not least the ongoing pandemic make the body an unstable and threatened place to be.

Therefore, it has never been more important to examine the visualisation of the body than now. With this backdrop, Nicolaisen examines the body as a "common space" in imperfect imagery, where bodily figures in absurd poses and missing limbs represent a chaotic place in an endangering world.
